What We Do

Strategic support for quality improvement and injury prevention initiatives.

The CARESTAR Foundation assists community-based, nonprofit organizations whose goals include improving trauma and emergency medical care, and preventing avoidable injury. We partner with and distribute funds to these groups to support innovative programs designed to address critical issues in this landscape.

Our funding focus areas include:

Partnership-Based Injury Prevention Work

Preventing traumatic injury and re-injury is a critical component of any emergency response system. Acknowledging and benefitting from the wealth of information, programs, and experts across the prevention field, the CARESTAR Foundation supports the planning, development, expansion, and coordination of partnerships that impact public safety initiatives.

Inter-Agency Communications Systems

Because the emergency response and health care delivery systems are composed of many independent entities, lifesaving medical information is not always available when needed. To employ technological advancements and emerging opportunities in the communications field, the CARESTAR Foundation will support efforts that improve connection, coordination, and sophistication of communications across California’s Emergency Medical System to maximize effectiveness and efficient use of data to save lives.

Connection-Focused Quality and Access Improvements

Considering the range of providers and complexities of the systems, the CARESTAR Foundation will support efforts that improve coordination and interconnectivity within California’s medical system to ensure that community members receive the right care from the right provider, at the right time.
