Tanir Ami – Chief Executive Officer – Seasoned health services administrator, MBA, former CEO of OLE Health in Napa and its Foundation. Experienced leader of health service organizations including community clinics and Blue Shield of California Foundation; initiator of successful collaborative programs to advance health and safety for vulnerable Californians. Received Outstanding Non-Profit Leader of the Year award in Napa in 2016. Tanir holds a Certificate in Health Services Management and is passionate about leadership team strengthening.
Kenneth L. Meehan – Board Chair – Ken is the former president and board chair at California Shock Trauma Air Rescue (CALSTAR). He led the effort to find new ownership, resulting in its sale to REACH Medical Holdings. Subsequently, he and the board honored CALSTAR’s legacy by establishing the CARESTAR Foundation. Prior to his retirement in 2012, Ken served as EVP and COO of John Muir Health in Walnut Creek, CA, and he currently serves on its Foundation board. Ken holds a BBA from Adelphi University and an MHA from Long Island University in New York.
Michael Heil – Secretary, Treasurer & Director – Founder and principal of a consulting group that provides health services management and consulting services to hospitals and healthcare organizations. Prior to these 25 years of consulting experience, Michael had 19 years of experience in senior management positions in hospital organizations in the Northeast and California. Faculty member/lecturer on healthcare policy, finance, and economics at St. Mary’s College and UC Berkeley.
Fatima Angeles – Director – VP of programs at The California Wellness Foundation has worked at the Hasbro Children’s Foundation, The Commonwealth Fund, and the philanthropy program of Pfizer Inc. She is a board member of the Sisters of St. Joseph Healthcare Foundation, Confluence Philanthropy, and has held leadership roles with Grantmakers In Health, Northern California Grantmakers, the Asian and Pacific Islander Health Forum and Funders Concerned About AIDS. She has an MPH from Columbia University and a BA from UC Berkeley.
Joseph C. Chiang, MD – Director – is an emergency medicine physician and Senior Regional Director for Vituity (Previously CEP America), a physician-led and owned partnership. He was chair of the emergency departments at Memorial Medical Center – Modesto, San Joaquin General Hospital and Memorial Hospital Los Banos. Dr. Chiang received Vituity’s Distinguished Service Award in 2014. He holds a BA from NYU and an MD from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is a member of The American Association for Physician Leadership.
Kacey Hansen – RN, BSN – Director – Executive Director of Neurosciences, Trauma and Regional Transfer Center Services in Contra Costa County at John Muir Health. Responsible for managing processes impacting trauma patients, development of the Regional Transfer Center as well as Contra Costa County’s only TJC Accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center. Kacey holds a Bachelor’s degree in nursing and an MBA from St. Mary’s College of California. She served on the CALSTAR board for several years prior to the inception of the CARESTAR Foundation.
Sandra Shewry – Director – VP for External Engagement at the California Health Care Foundation, where she leads health policy communications and government relations. She was CEO of the Center for Connected Health Policy, working to remove barriers to telehealth technologies, and was director of the California Department of Health Care Services and executive director of the California Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board. Shewry has BAs in community studies and psychology from UCSC, and MAs in public health and social welfare from UC Berkeley.
